Graduation Ceremonies for 2019 Graduating Class likely to be held in June/July, 2020 | Ameco Connect 

Graduation ceremonies in Colleges of Education are meant to confer Diploma on graduands of a College with some funfair. This years’ graduation ceremony seems to be in limbo as all Colleges of Education and other tertiary institutions have been suspended due to the emergence of the novel Coronavirus. 

Per the academic calendar for most Colleges of Education, graduation ceremonies are usually held between April and July annually. However, that seems not to be the case this year as the emergence of the novel Coronavirus has led to a drastic change in activities for the academic year.

According to checks conducted by the News Desk of the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal indicates that the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast has released the pass list for 2019 graduating class of the various Colleges of Education.

Some Colleges of Education held their graduation ceremonies earlier before the emergence of COVID – 19 into the country which led to the shutdown of educational institutions.

According to an interaction with the News Desk followed closely by Ameco Connect, Principal of Akatsi College of Education who doubles as the PRINCOF Volta Zonal Chair, Mr. John Seddoh stated that “I have seen a couple of Colleges of Education Congregation invitations for next month that is in June. I don’t know if they are anticipating that things will be better by then, for instance the lifting of the ban on social gatherings. So basically, until the ban is lifted, we would have to hold on for now”.

He further added that “in the event that the ban is lifted, Colleges are likely to proceed to hold their congregations even without trainee teachers on campus. Groups within the College set-up such as the College Choir and cultural troupe may be needed to come in to grace the occasion. Arrangements will be made for the graduands themselves to come and help arrange the ceremony ground. They can arrive a day or two before the congregations to help put the place in order”.
