National
Union of Ghana Students [NUGS] Volta Regional Bloc held their First
Central Committee Meeting at University of Health and Allied Science
(UHAS), Ho campus.
The
purpose of the meeting was to discuss the main activities to be
carried out in the 2019/2020 NUGS years.
The
Federal President of UHAS, the host campus welcomed all the members
to the meeting, followed by the President of NUGS VOLTA BLOC, H.E
Godson Atsu Agbemavah.

Various
representatives from institutions came out to read their
institutional reports on some achievements and challenges faced
during their tenure of office. These institutions included; St.
Teresa’s College of Education, Hohoe, St. Francis College of
Education, Government College of Education,Peki, E.P College of
Education, Amedzofe, Jasikan College of Education, Holy Spirit
College of Education, Dambai College of Education, Ho Nursing
Training College and University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS),
HO etc. Most of them cited numerous challenges; some of the
challenges were financial issues as a result of students not paying
their SRC dues on time, lack or inadequate classroom blocks for
studies due to the introduction of the new B.Ed Programme, redundancy
of school management to collaborate with SRC. The UHAS President also
made of 5% increment of school bills across all segment without any
official notice from appropriate headquarters. “This is actually a
challenge to the entire students of the university” he said. He
therefore plead with the Regional Executive Council of NUGS Volta
Bloc to come to the aid of students of the institution.
The
President of Holy Spirit College of Education, Ho V/R made mention of
their college not being part of Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana
(TTAG) and will like NUGS Volta Bloc to make an effort by helping
them join the stated association. Some members raised concern that
Holy Spirit College of education is not a public college how then
will they pay their dues to TTAG since they do not take allowances
from Government if they join TTAG? Formal President of the BLOC Hon.
Francis Doe titsogbui made mention that, since they are ready to join
TTAG, NUGS will collaborate with TTAG in order to bring them on
board.

so, committees were formed to aid in the realization of the aims and
objectives of the 2019/2020 NUGS year. The committees comprises of
members from various institutions; the Judicial Committee,
Organization Committee, Press and Information committee and Financial
Committee were the committees formed.

Godson Atsu Agbemavah was cited to be embark on;

Creation of Local NUGS Secretariat.
2.
Pageantry and Awards Nights.
3.
Capacity Building Programmes.
4.
Social Outreaches.
5.
Television programme dubbed ‘the voice of the student’.
6.
Regional Secretariat.
7.
Laptops for administrative works.
8.
Production of NUGS cloth.
9.
Sensitization outreach to all institutions etc…
The
former President of the Union in the person of Hon. Francis Doe
Atitsogbui presented certificates and citations to the 2018/2019
CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS and his able executive.

The
Chairman gave his closing remarks and also appreciated all those in
one way or the other helped in the organization of the Central
Committee meeting and representatives of the various institutions.
The
closing prayer was said by Miss. Juliet Passah Vice president, Holy
Spirit College of Education and the meeting closed at 5:56 pm.
